Square Monolith Granite ring

Born out of an artists residency I took part in in Cape Cornwall in 2023, the Monolith Granite Collection is a series of work exploring ancient metal working skills out under the open sky and using the granite boulders to give texture to the surface of each new piece. They are created in some of my favourite places in the world in West Cornwall, The Isles of Scilly and on Dartmoor.

I have always been drawn to the standing stones and their ancient heritage, through human time and geological time. These pieces are like finger prints of a geological event and I use my eyes and fingers to search out the most interesting textures and surfaces to give beautiful, unique detail to each piece. Quartz seams, a reoccurring theme in my work, leave raised and shining ridge lines in the metal while mottled granite has pock marks where mica and quartz have worn free through tide and wind.

Every piece has its own unique texture formed from a particular rock in a specific place. Sometimes I use my Granddad's hammers and sometimes I am lucky enough to find a perfectly shaped pebble to use as a tool. These unique Monolith Granite rings can be ordered to size and I will make them up from metal I have already been out and textured.
