My Arctic Residency
I went with few materials and little idea of what I wanted to achieve. I hoped that things would unfold as creativity stirred. What happened could be described as coincidence but I feel there is more to it. Our word became SYNCHRONICITY!
My cabin is on the left, the kitchen and studio are up on the right.
On the first afternoon, I found a coil of fine copper wire, probably a cable in a previous life. It was blue and green with verdigris and lent itself perfectly to forming shapes like the rock formation in the photo.
The landscape was in the depth of winter and everything was brittle and dried. The rocks were sculpted and the sky was the most glorious ever changing picture. Greenfinches and ptarmigan kept watch and a sea eagle graced our lunch table view one day.
Clockwise: Sun setting reflected in the kitchen window * Nav marker at the northern most tip * Looking south from Sørvaer * Looking towards the rising sun fro The Arctic Hideaway.
I think about the Arctic Hideaway every day. I’m so grateful for this opportunity and for what it has propelled me towards. Despite a busy home life, I take moments each day to reflect and try to hold on to the boundaries I need in order to hold on to the person I glimpsed inside me.
Clockwise - Sunset across Fleinvaer * Magnum’s fishing buoys * Clear blue waters between the islands * Me in my studio one evening * The northern most yellow house * 5.30 am across snow covered mountains.
